Sundance has been cool, the women's march in a blizzard was inspiring and strong, but most importantly YO I MET AMY GOODMAN. A hero and the only person I'd ask for a selfie with at this entire festival. She got me and @b_nugz through some hard times with her reporting last year, as we watched America do its thing from abroad. Support truth, journalism, and integrity. Check out @democracynow •
Mehdi Qamoum and Courtney Hartman compose and perform the song "Caldera" in a Brooklyn cheese cellar. Another one of those joyous random New York encounters. Loved witnessing and filming these moments. Full video and lyrics at Raw Music Intl. #morocco #crownheights #guimbri

#TB View from the balcony in mid summer, when everyone who has a place to go escapes the Athens heat and I watch an old man carry heavy sacks across the empty steaming street. #athens #greece #35mm

RIP Charles Duvelle.
Photo at Duvelle's home near Paris, summer 2016. We lost a great one.

From the east coast tour with #GroupDoueh ... when the mood was right Halima would jump into the crowd and show US audiences how to move. Some towns got it better than others but it was often pretty joyful. Minimal flailing. This is @undrgroundarts in #Philly.
"Everyone is invited to the wedding" they said. A giant tree protected the village square and a large man cut up lamb chunks and tossed the bits into different buckets with intimate familiarity. They handed each of us a plastic liter bottle of wine and a plate of meat and told us to find a seat at the communal tables. The music-- guitar clarinet hand drums and singing -- overpowered the sound of the waves and we ate and drank and danced in circles til we hit that kind of trance state our friend Stefania told us about. A collective high that comes with bopping up and down in semi-synch with a hundred people--family friends and strangers -- for several hours. It was almost morning when the old woman took the mic. She began to sing with that special Greek mixture of melancholy and joy, weeping for the bride and groom or something else likely beyond my understanding. I willed my camera to work in the dark. We left the wedding frayed and sweating early in the morning to find the ocean roaring and our car stuck in the sand. Thankfully ten Greek bros helped push us out and we went back to our little house on the mountain. #35mm #filmphotography #rebetikos #greece
