Vikos Gorge, Zagori, northern Greece. Vertical Transhumance - traveling with your herds between mountain and valley, following the season. I rode up in a beat Nissan Note, but I thought of the old nomadic days on these mountains.
All-night music in the mountains of #Epirus. Clarinet and violin trade off mournful pentatonic Balkan runs and everyone moves together in concentric circles, drinking, eating and dancing til morning. A lesson in communal feeling.
August in Athens. Everyone who can leave leaves. It's just us and the old grandmas now. They shuffle down steaming shuttered streets in faded house dresses and worn down sandals, past the sleeping city cats, looking dazed. Everything is closed but the occasional coffee chain or off-track-betting joint, serving the vital addictions of those left behind. The lady who runs the bakery went to Vegas, the guy who runs the gyro joint went up to Epirus. Even the junkies, anarchists, and riot police seem to be on vacation. Packing up the car. We out. #roadtrip
Throwback to #Paris a few weeks back when @b_nugz and I screened a rough cut or our new film "Oulaya's Wedding" for a crew of family, friends and fellow social deviants at a squat in Stalingrad. The screen we wanted to project on was "expropriated" the day before by some Italian anarchists so we put up a white sheet. Some maneuvering required to hide the bloodstains but we got that shit nailed up, the projector duct taped to the ceiling, the Mao screensaver off the screen, and the film blasting at top volume. Thanks to all who came out and watched and danced and talked to us about music and movies. For those of you on the East Coast of the US, keep an eye out! We comin thru with a finished cut of Oulaya's Wedding and live performances by #GroupDoueh, the most beloved band in Western Sahara, in late Sept and Oct. #squatlife
Garden of the great Kenyan guitarist Johnstone Mukabi. Going thru a final round of photos for our upcoming series of vinyl records from rural Kenya. Of all the fine shots I've seen today, this is the one I love. Don't know why. Overrun. #kenya #nature 🇰🇪 thinking of my Kenyan people ahead of tomorrow's election.

#Paris a few weeks back. Last summer, looking with Athens eyes, the city felt frenzied scowling and expensive. But this summer it was magic. #35mm #film
A year ago today @b_nugz @sublimefrequencies and I were on our way to Western Sahara for Oulaya's Wedding. Now the film is nearly done, we're planning an east coast tour with #GroupDoueh, and I'm sitting in Greece looking at this photo of an overstuffed wedding tent at dusk. #westernsahara #architecture #travel #film
Jimmy Bongo and supporting crew, Kakamega Kenya. Bongo played Nairobi clubs for years with the Bongo Boys. He recently lost his eyesight, and felt up and down the guitar neck trying to bring back the old songs. He remembered two, soft and gorgeous. They both made it to the final record of old man guitar music from Kenya, coming in September. #kenya #portrait #goldenage
Zachariah Omufumbwa, Kenyan guitarist of the omutibo style, Spring 2016. Zachariah's music is prominently featured on a new album of songs from western Kenya coming to you soon from Raw Music International / #MississippiRecords / #OlvidoRecords #Kenya #portrait #luhya
