Waists Wining Worldwide / by Cyrus Moussavi

On Sunday I head to Trinidad & Tobago for the next Raw Music International episode.  Rolling solo this time, as Jacob is working on stories in Lebanon and Iraq.

I can't wait, not only because it's freezing and dour in New York, but because there is such a huge diversity of music and cultures in Trini.  I'm most excited about the reggae scene (my favorite genre), but also about Chutney music, made by the people of Indian descent in Trinidad.  It's such a glorious mix of sounds -- harmonium and tabla, Indian melodies, hectic Caribbean rhythms, ladies in saris wining.  It's everything I love about music and humanity. A cross cultural mash. More to come from Trinidad. For now, enjoy the classic Chutney jam "Mor Tor" by Rikki Jai (above)...
